ORS SACHETS
Contains Glucose; Sodium acid citrate; Sodium chloride; Potassium chloride
It is administered by mouth to prevent and treat dehydration due to acute diarrhoeal diseases. It is used in two basic treatment phases: The replacement of fluids and electrolytes lost through diarrhoea or vomiting and a maintenance phase which is replacement of losses due to continuous diarrhoea and vomiting and of normal losses due to respiration, sweating, urination, which is especially high in infants.
To reconstitute use 1 litre of water for 1 litre satchets and 500ml of water for half litre satchets as indicated on the satchets.
Dosage:
Under 6 months: 1/2 to 1 sachet every 4-6 hours
6-24 months: 1 sachet every 3-4 hours
2-5 years: 1-2 sachets every 3-4 hours
5-8 years: 2 sachets every 3-4 hours
8-10 years: 1 sachet every 1-2 hours
Adults and children over 12 years: 1 or 2 sachets after every loose motion (up to 8-12 sachets in 24 hours)
